Educational books on astronomy are not just of interest to the academic astronomer. They provide an excellent source of information about the universe. Some background in astronomy is usually required, and some are require relatively advanced knowledge. The books on the top row are suitable for the beginner and the books on the bottom row are more specialised, and are the recommended texts for many university level courses.

If you wish to study astronomy in more depth, then check out distance learning courses provided by Liverpool John Moores University and UCLAN. If you are interested in radio astronomy, Jodrell Bank offers distance learning courses. These universities operate a credit system so you can mix and match courses between institutions and gain an astronomy qualification.
